Almagro on top

Acapulco ATP 500

Top Seeds:

1. Nalbandian <- is anyone suprised?
2. Monfils
3. Robredo
4. Almagro
5. Acasuso
6. Montanes
7. Granollers
8. Moya
My pick: Tommy "en fuego" Robredo

Underdog Pick: Everyone other than Robredo... but if I had to pick I'd go Bellucci

Champion: (4)Nicolas Almagro 6-4 6-4

Runner Up: Gael Monfils

I had picked Almagro to win this final match, however I wasn't really expecting the 6-4 6-4 routine win by Almagro. Monfils who is now ranked a career high #10 in the world is now just 1-6 in ATP finals... perhaps he has a bit of a problem developing there. Unfortunately for him it looks like it isn't a fitness issue, which would be easy to solve... but more of a mental block.

Following his match Monfils said

"I didn't play well today. When I get to the final I have a hard time. Today in particular I didn't handle it well. I wasn't aggressive enough but it's something I will work on and hopefully get better at"

I hope he does improve it, as he's a fun guy to watch and you hate to see anyone have that particular problem.

I would love to see Monfils come into his own and start being able to use his extreme athleticism to his advantage. I love to watch him play!

good for Almagro. my question is, what is wrong with Nalbandian. This dude can't win a major to save his life. Maybe it has to do with that beer gut he has. who knows.

After the match, Monfils said he wasn't aggressive enough. He covers that court so well that he shouldn't hesitate to go for it. I like watching him and hope he can get over the hump and win a title.

Yeah Monfils is a great player to watch and will more than likely be catching the public eye a ton more in the future here. Clearly he has a problem though in finals, lets hope that changes!
